Therapy
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you”
Maya Angelou

What is the Process?
-
Congratulations, you’re making an important first step on your journey to wellness! It’s normal to feel apprehensive about your initial meeting with a therapist. The purpose of the first session is designed for consultation and assessment, consisting of you providing background information, identifying problems that inspired you to seek therapy, and what you hope to accomplish in treatment. Your therapist will discuss their own approach or therapeutic orientation and offer a guideline of what to expect. In the first session, plan on getting to know each other and deciding if the relationship is a good fit. After the initial meeting, we will collaboratively agree on a plan that details your specific goals and strategies for achieving them. Throughout the course of treatment, your therapist will review your progress, and make adjustments as needed. Therapy is an active process, the more you put into it, the more benefits you will experience, hence the expectation is that you do the work, in and outside of the therapy space, and your therapist will support you along the way.
